Khadija Ghanizada is a recent graduate from Emma Willard School in Troy, New York. Before coming to Emma Willard, she studied at the School of Leadership Afghanistan, SOLA, the first boarding school for girls in Afghanistan and Zarghona High school. Currently, a freshman at Bard, her intended majors are human rights and environmental urban studies with a concentration in gender and sexuality studies.
At Emma Willard, Khadija was involved in many extracurricular activities. She was a hall proctor – a student leader responsible for building community and mentoring students and a member of the Speaker Series group whose mission was to bring influential people outside of the school to talk to the school community. During her junior year, Khadija was a member of Cluett House, a social justice themed dormitory whose mission is to create positive world change.
During her senior year, Khadija did an independent Senior Signature Project by creating an illustrated reflection of her personal experiences and self-published it as a book. She writes about her life in Afghanistan and the United States, her challenges and journey to embrace them, as well as her family who taught her love and compassion. In addition, she was the goalie for JV field hockey team, and played JV basketball and Lacrosse at Emma. Khadija was the senior representative in Alumnae Council and a member of various clubs including FairTrade, Emma Green, F-Word, Democracy Matters, and Pride.
